Hello All!
Welcome to the Shenandoah Composers Forum blog site. The purpose of this site is to offer an online forum where students and faculty may continue discussions from the in class meetings as well as discuss the week's listening or whatever 'new music' topics might come up.
Following each week's in class meeting, I will create a post with the topic of the day.
Please feel free to post a comment or to create your own new post.
PLEASE spell-check your entries and be courteous to all those on this forum.
In order to post to this forum you MUST email me your email address and register as a blogger user.
Please contact me with your email at: jpuckett@su.edu
Please also encourage any of your non-composer classmates who are interested in new music to both come to the in class meeting and participate in this blog.
All best wishes!

Here are 7 music sites that I look at pretty much every day. I don't necessarily read everything, of course, but I glance at them and then read just the articles that look interesting.

probably the best way to keep up with the arts generally, with lots of music news - you have to sign up, but it's free (and worth bothering with!)
http://www.therestisnoise.com/
Alex Ross is, among other things, the classical music critic for The New Yorker - he is a wonderful writer and deeply interested in contemporary music - this is a quality, worthwhile blog
http://sequenza21.com//index.html
as you can guess from its name, this is a contemporary music site - often interesting, it occasionally has opinions that don't persuade me on topics that hardly interest me
http://www.artsjournal.com/music/
a really great resource that is a daily list of music articles in English found on websites from around the world
http://ionarts.blogspot.com/
a DC-based blog that is frequently interesting and well-written - all sorts of things musical, including some articles on contemporary stuff - on the other hand, the Washington Post online generally is pathetic in its coverage of concert music
http://www.newmusicbox.org/
all contemporary all the time - a good source of news and opinions on new music
http://music.guardian.co.uk/classical
a London paper, this has interesting concert reviews of (mostly) English programs, CD reviews, articles, etc.
Feel free to share other sites with the group!
